Rotacaster omni wheels are the only multidirectional floor wheel to combine 360° movement with the stability of a fixed mounting, making them the sole alternative to swivel castors.

rotacaster omni wheels

The rotacaster is a high impact omni wheel designed for both floor and conveyor transfer use.  Manufactured from engineering polymer, the injection moulded web-like structure of the wheel body and over-moulded rollers provide a durable and robust wheel with no pins, inserts or seams to maintain, ensuring consistent trouble free performance for the life of the wheel.

Unlike swivel castors, the fixed orientation of the rotacaster omni wheel provides both simple and stable mounting options and allows the wheel to be housed within a product requiring minimal space or clearance.  Since each wheel acts independently to improve control, multiple wheels and layouts may be customised to meet individual manoeuvrability and load requirements.

As a fixed wheel, rotacaster omni-wheels are unique and provide the following benefits:

  • improved load stability and balance resulting in improved safety
  • superior tracking capabilities and directional control (even across inclines)
  • the ability to leverage off rear wheels to easily mount kerbs and single steps
  • precise positioning due to no rotation about a swivel offset
  • simple mounting alternatives

Rotacaster omni wheels are available in two sizes - a 125mm diameter wheel and a 48mm diameter wheel. The 125mm rotacaster multi-directional wheel is available in a single, double or triple row configuration whilst the 48mm rotacaster multi-directional wheel is available in a double row configuration with a triple row marked for furture release. Single 125mm rotacaster omni-wheels may be combined to form either free turning or keyed driven conveyor transfer stations or used as an alternative to ball transfer units, while the double and triple wheels are generally fitted with fork, channel or rail mounts.  The rotacaster range includes polyurethane rollers, and the double and triple omni wheels include sealed or nylon bearings.  If you have specific custom requirements such as colour and special purpose additives please contact us directly for pricing.

wheel mounts

The fixed orientation of the rotacaster multidirectional wheel (omni wheel) allows for a number of simple mounting options.  Because each rotacaster wheel acts independently, the use of multiple wheels and layouts provides extra manoeuvrability and can be customised to meet specific load capability requirements without the need for larger wheels or the additional forces sometimes required to overcome binding (mechanical coupling) caused by the misalignment of swivel castors.

The most effective and efficient method of mounting is simple fixed rail or support plate fixings with single axle bolt fitting.  Rotacaster provides fork and multi-purpose mounts to suit both new and existing applications as well as provide advice on custom mounting solutions for your particular application.

Fork Mounts are available with or without top plates for both double and triple rotacaster wheels (see above)

Multi-Mount Channels (or load skates) provide several mounting alternatives and each channel can accommodate two or three wheels as required.  Multi-Mounts may be fitted in the following ways:

  • directly to a product structure using the wheel axle bolts
  • in a fixed position with two 19mm (3/4”) axle shafts
  • pivoting, with one centre axle or pin (ideal for undulating surfaces)
  • multi-mounts can also be used to create custom dollies or multidirectional skates (load skates)

Cut-Away Mounts have a raised centre to allow clearance for stepping over thresholds, door sills or large floor obstructions without frame contact.  It also allows better wheel clearance/engagement to an edge when stepping up kerbs or single steps.

Rotacaster Stair Climber Trolley Wheels and Mount. Click for more images.Stair Climbing Trolley Wheels with Mounts are another available option from rotacaster and can improve functionality and manoeuvrability of existing stair climbing trolleys and hand trucks.  The rotacaster wheel's rotational and direct lateral (sideways) capability allows for a load to be readily repositioned across the width of a stair and manoeuvred on stair landings.  Rotacaster stair climbing trolley wheels with mounts have been designed with reference to the Australian Construction Standards and provide the following benefits:

  • stair nosing clearance avoiding contact and damage
  • full vertical load support on most tread widths
  • upper wheels roll-over for fluid and controlled descents
  • multidirectional (or omni directional) movement capability
  • moulded wheel guards protect doors and walls from marking and gouging

Retro fitting to existing stair climbing trolleys is possible subject to the correct axle location, please contact rotacaster for more information.
